For anyone interested in reading and discussing the works of Michel Foucault. We plan to start with The Archaeology of Knowledge in autumn 2011.

We are going to be discussing the Foucault/Habermas Debate. The text we'll be reading is Michael Kelly (ed.), Critique and Power: Recasting the Foucault/Habermas Debate (Cambridge, MA: MIT Press, 1994).

 

Next meeting: 

Monday, 21st May at 7.30pm in Room 112

Reading: Two essays on Foucault by by Jurgen Habermas, which are

'The Critique of Reason as an Unmasking of the Human Sciences: Michel Foucault'  and 'Some Questions Concerning the Theory of Power: Foucault Again'.

These can be found in two places...

...either in Michael Kelly (ed.), Critique and Power: Recasting the Foucault/Habermas Debate, in which they are chapters 3 and 4.

...or in Jurgen Habermas, The Philosophical Discourse of Modernity: Twelve Lectures, in which they are chapters 9 and 10.
