Maybe something translated, and talk about translation among other things?  Javier Marias might be interesting - a translator himself (from English) and a writer with a very distinctive style.  Could look at the early parts of A Heart So White, which has a very funny scene in which translation plays a key part, or at the opening of Tomorrow In The Battle Think On Me?

We've been thinking about reading something translated. Reading only old, white, male anglo-saxons is a bit myopic. Don't really know Marias, which is reason enough to have a look.
