I looked for the group everwhere last night and couldn't find you! Such a pity as I really enjoyed the play. When is the next reading group taking place?

Westward for Smelts - It's a very fishy text...

Come for wine and a discussion on who you think would read a book like Westward for Smelts.

We're at BBK Arts Week on Tuesday 19 May: Book here

Hope to see you there.

After January's reading group Eva and I became a little obsessed with Westward for Smelts...

We're telling our fishy tale of cheap print, sex and text at Pop Up Birkbeck in Enfield on 7 May or at Arts Week in Gordon Sq on 19 May.

Come and join us!

Two conferences run by the EMRG chairs are coming up this academic year... Becky's organizing a day called 'Working it out' at Birkbeck on Saturday 18th May (all things early modern and numerical!) and Jackie's involved in a conference on Renaissance Men at the Middle Temple, held at Birkbeck and Middle Temple Hall, on Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd February. Elizabethan revels and meal on the Saturday evening! See http://middletemple2013.wordpress.com/ for Call for Papers and more details .

The Early Modern Reading Group is planning a staged reading in the summer, and would like anyone interested in being part of it to be at the meeting on 2nd May, or get in touch... All very much at the planning stage currently - more information to follow!

EMRG members might be interested in going along to the Early Modern Society's January lecture:

The Birkbeck Early Modern Society is pleased to announce its first event of 2012. Dr Emma Smith will give a talk on ‘Reading Shakespeare’s First Folio (1623) on 20 January, 6:30 pm, Room B02 Malet Street.

Dr Smith has written widely on Shakespeare: her books include The Cambridge Introduction to Shakespeare and the forthcoming Cambridge Shakespeare Guide. Do join us for what promises to be a fascinating talk.
