A student-led research seminar focussing on the relationship between literature and the visual, with a focus from 19th century to contemporary. Run jointly by postgraduates from Royal Holloway and Birkbeck, but open to all.
We aim to bring together a lively community of researchers from across institutions, and hope to address: methodologies; different media such as painting, film and photography; wider cultural practices, such as fashion and applied arts; and scientific, philosophical or political approaches to the visual as reflected in literature. Sessions will be held three times a term starting in March 2013.
A regular forum in which to study key texts, debate current interdisciplinary issues and share knowledge, allowing students to meet others with similar research interests and present their own work. A number of sessions will involve academics working on the relationships between literature and visual cultures.
