Metaphor-abstraction-exchange

Information

We are a new interdisciplinary research group looking at the theme of 'metaphor' - in the broadest sense, including (real) abstraction, substitution, exchange relations and exchange value, things-seen-in-terms-of-other-things, visual metaphor and art, signs and signifying, money, allegory, the commodity-sign, language-as-metaphor. Inspirations include Donald Miller 'The Reason of Metaphor', Richard Seaford 'Money and the Early Greek Mind', Karl Marx and Alfred Sohn-Rethel, JM Coetzee and Lakoff and Johnson's 'Metaphors We Live By'.

Hi Janhavi, sorry for the slow reply - the group isn't active any more I'm afraid... it sort of lost momentum unfortunately and we stopped meeting a while ago. If you wanted to send me your email address I can add you to the email group - it's not very active but I send out links and so on from time to time. My email is [email protected].

Best wishes,

Claire
