Events, forums, projects, and people in the arts & humanities research community

Hi there

Members of the C19 Reading Group might be interested in a series of events on Neo-Victorian culture happening at Birkbeck this term, organised in collaboration with the Guildhall Art Gallery’s Victoriana exhibition.

There are three strands: first, a series of film screenings on Tuesday afternoons, starting with Jane Campion's The Piano next week (22 Oct, 2pm, Birkbeck Cinema).

Second, there is a panel discussion about Neo-Victorian television (Ripper Street, Sherlock etc) with three academics working in this field, which is on Saturday 23 November, in the Keynes Library.

Third, there is a Steampunk symposium on Saturday 30 November at Guildhall Art Gallery, featuring one of the artists featured in the exhibition (Herr Doktor) discussing this work, plus a talk from the curator, a chance to see and discuss the exhibition, and a panel of academics working on Steampunk (including Birkbeck’s Tony Venezia).

All the events are free but you do need to register. Details of the film season are here.

Details of the TV panel here. And the Steampunk event here.

Hope to see some of you there!

Best wishes

Lisa
