Event Description

The Djuna Barnes Research Seminar

Monday 21st February
Room G32
Senate House South Block
6.00-8.00 pm

Nick Hocking (Birkbeck):

'Like a Priestess in a Bear’s Cave: Jung’s Anima and Modernist Sexuality in Nightwood.'

Please join us on Monday for the first of our sessions focusing on 'Barnes and Others'. Nick Hocking (Birkbeck College) will be leading this session with a consideration of the ways in which discussions of Carl Jung and modernism might develop a reading of Barnes's Nightwood (1936) concerned with 'night consciousness', image and symbol.

Suggested reading: Nightwood and extracts from Jung's autobiography Memories, Dreams, Relections (London: Flamingo, 1983), pp. 65 - 70 and Modern Man in Search of a Soul (London: Routledge, 2001), pp. 170-176.

Please contact [email protected] for extracts
