The Cybernetics reading group is dedicated to reading and discussing the core texts of the 'cyberneticians' of the late 1940s and through the 1950s, centered around the ten Macy Conferences that ran from 1946-1953.
The cyberneticians pioneered many of the core concepts central to todays understanding of both culture and science: information, feedback, control and communication.
The group aims at reading primary texts of the original cyberneticists and their heirs, discussing and interrogating some of the ideas we today take for granted.
Everyone welcome.

Hi Jess, we haven't planned the next session as of now, but still running!
The next session will be (me doing) a presentation on CYBORGS, 18-19.30 on May 13th in room 112.
We're reading Manfred Clynes and Nathan Klines' 'Drugs, Space and Cybernetcs: Evolution to Cyborgs', which is linked to on the event page:

Thanks Sophie!
Since no one could make it for our last session, I've changed the date to 18-19.30, February 25. Note that the room this time is in 30 Russell Square, room 405.

Readings are on the event page. Sorry for the short notice! It's should be a relatively quick read.
Readings are on the event page, but I'll put them here as well.
Warren Weaver: Some Recent Contributions to the Mathematical Theory...
Our next session is Monday 10.12, on information.

For the second session 19 November, we are reading the following:
Pages 6-13 (25-32 of the PDF reader) of 'Introduction' from Cybernetics (on feedback) Norbert%20Wiener%20-%20Cybernetics%20-%20Introduction.pdf
and
Chapter 10 ‘Some Communication Machines and Their Future’ from The Human Use of Human Beings Norbert%20Wiener%20-%20Human_use_of_human_beings.pdf
Please let me know if the links do not work or there are any other problems with the selected material. Thanks!
Hopefully see you all on Monday!
